As a part of a Wellpoint grant, March of Dimes and Naturally Nurtured Birth Services are working to expand equitable access to and utilization of doula services in Shelby County by strengthening the demand for, utilization of, and systems integration of doula services. The aim of the project is to increase access to high quality health care and perinatal outcomes by improving doula/ provider relationships and providing culturally appropriate care to marginalized and low-socioeconomic communities who otherwise cannot afford the out- of-pocket expenses of a doula.
